Tom Grimsey
Artist Tom Grimsey was born in
London in 1960. He studied sculpture at Wimbledon School
of Art and later St Martin’s, before being awarded
the Henry Moore Sculpture Fellowship at Manchester Metropolitan
University in 1990.
Although he works in a range of
materials, his particular specialism is metalwork and
its application in the design of the public realm. Since
1997 Tom has worked as an artist consultant to local authorities
and the health service, including a prestigious commission
from West Bromwich Council to collaborate with the award-winning
architects Alsop + Stormer and develop a series of multi
media sculptures for the re-development of the town centre.
Other recent commissions include landscaping works for
a new general hospital in Newhaven, and sculptures for
Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter.
Tom also combines his creative
practice with teaching in the sculpture departments at
Demontfort University, Leicester and Brighton University.
